One Greater Manchester side has an non-professional vets team with nine ex- Premier League players in their active roster.

The team Vets Over 35s are situated in southern Manchester and compete in the Cheshire Veterans League Premier Division.

Their squad list this campaign includes 9 former top-flight players, with a total over 1,800 Premier League matches.

They feature one forward, who scored 37 scores in 117 games for his former club after joining them for nine million pounds from Bundesliga club Freiburg in 2012.

So great is the squad depth at Wythenshawe, Niasse had his first game at defender.

"That's a bit unusual but then, I enjoy sprinting and just go inside - I'm not defending that much," he said.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to keep attacking.

"That running is what I'm after. It's good fun."

Along with the forward's six scores on his first game, Stephen Ireland has scored eight in three appearances for the side, while Boyd hit 5 on his first appearance and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by position, notched a hat-trick in one match up front.

"We literally haven't stopped talking about it - I was phoning my mother and sibling on the way home.

"They were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a bunch of regular fellas.

"Now we are eager for the return match."
